Do you have any questions?
Here is a little bit about me….
I was born and raised in Jersey City, to a single Puerto Rican mother of three kids. As a child, there was a huge emphasis on good behavior, academics, and family. And although we were close, we talked about everything BUT our feelings. My early childhood curiosity of what we feel, why we feel it, and why talking about it is so taboo became the fire that still glows in me to this day and has created my passion for psychotherapy.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Arts and Sciences with a Minor in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work.
After receiving my license in Social Work, I began my journey of helping others at the highest level of care you could receive while still being in the community, a Partial Hospitalization Program at Jersey City Medical Center for children and adolescents. Working in the urban area of Jersey City, while also dealing with a very sensitive population, high in need, was a tall order for a recent 20-ish year old Social Work graduate. I learned so much about group dynamics, interventions with children and families, and about my own biases.
Some of my previous work experience also includes working with women who were survivors of domestic violence, children and families through early intervention services, and did some work around women empowerment co-creating a 4-day women’s retreat in Bradford, Vermont.
Following my experiences working at Jersey City Medical Center, I transitioned into the Elizabeth Public School system. Serving the Elizabeth community as a Culture and Climate Coach, I spend time creating a holistic approach to wellness and education through school wide programs designed to improve school culture, running social emotional lessons for students, and developing systems for measuring culture and climate improvements including attendance data, discipline data, and student achievement data.
Regardless of where I have been employed, my work has always been centered around healthy children and supported families. Being a child of a single parent from an urban community, I can empathize with feelings of not being enough, of not having the tools to ask for what you need, and not being able to navigate the complexities of life, this is why I have chosen to work with children and teens from inner cities and urban communities
Being a parent myself, I understand the need for structure, discipline, and routine. The direct conflicts between what a child needs from their parents and what parents need from their children can really limit some of the foundations we need for positive mental health, such as communication, support, and kindness.
This is where Conception of Healing was born.
My mixed experience of working with children in different areas and specializations has created a wealth of knowledge and tools to help the families I work with navigate different challenges, in the community, at home, and internally.
I believe in a family centered approach, where the entire family learns healthier and more effective ways to support, trust, and communicate with each other to create lasting changes to their behavior, feelings, and family dynamics. My entire career has been focused on working with children, their families, and doing so with empathy, kindness, and humor.
